I don't get a crash on opening fitting screen, but it does seem to bork clipping on other windows (ie text and icons bleed over top/bottom of window when scrolling, but only while fitting window is open). Maybe this is at the root of the problem?...

There's actually a package in the Ubuntu repository for Wine 1.1.31. (It's marked wine1.2). Try that. Of course, I'm having no luck with it as yet, but haven't spent much time tinkering.
